Details A group of prehistoric structures including fifteen hut-circles, a burnt mound, two burial cairns and cultivation remains lie just north of the road B955 in Glen Clova near Wheen. Most of the hut circles are circular, the other 4 oval, and they range in size from 8m to 15.5m in diameter within stony banks. The entrances of all but one are in the southern arc. The largest hut has an entrance in the east side with a possible second one in the west. A ring-cairn measuring 10.6m in diameter over a kerb of large boulders, lies immediately northwest of the largest hut circle. There is also a large oval quarry scoop, 25m x 15m and up to 3m deep, but not considered to be of any great antiquity. A number of small rectangular structures, possibly sheilings lie scattered across the area. One rectangular enclosure is depicted on the east edge of the area on the 2nd edition OS map of 1888, but nothing is shown on the current edition (2006). RCAHMS site visit 1999 recorded that over 200 small cairns and short lengths of stony bank are spread across the hillslope. Surveyed by GUARD in 1999. RCAHMS notes that the southeast part of a township (comprising twelve buildings, two huts and a kiln) coincides with the area containing hut-circles and cultivation remains.
