Site of a short cist. It was discovered during ploughing by the farmer, F W Richardson, on 22nd October 1955 and excavated by D B Taylor the following day. The internal dimensions of the cist were 0.98m long x 0.58 wide x 0.18m deep. The floor was the natural sand and gravel. The massive side slabs were 0.99m long x 0.56m deep x 0.18m thick and 0.99m long x 0.58m deep x 0.18m thick. The end slabs were 0.58m long x 0.56m deep x 0.18m thick and 0.58m long x 0.56m wide x 0.1m thick. The capstone was 0.2m below the ground level at the time and it measured 1.75m long x 1.14m wide x 0.18m thick. The cist contained an apparently unaccompanied crouched burial which had been mostly destroyed due to 0.1m of soil which had filtered into the cist. Only fragmentary remains of the bones above this layer survived, so no skeletal analysis was undertaken.
