Cross-incised stone. A large, rough boulder of whinstone, 0.8m x 0.5m x 0.4m, crudely incised with a cross. According to local tradition, Bruce planted his standard on it. It was moved to its present position from another part of the hill 'within living memory' in the mid-19th century Possibly connected to St. Drostan's religious establishment, because 'Droustie's Meadow' is close to the spot, and it is possible that the stone may have originated from the 'Meadow' or from the site of the church of Droustie. Lines have been incised to form a Latin cross in relief upon its north face. The stone was leaning to the south at an angle of circa 40 degrees when visited by the OS in 1967.
