Site of a mansion or castle. Cruickshank reported in 1899 that Balmachie, a mansion house or castle, was entered in the Valuation Roll of 1682, and was a plain but substantial building. The site is shown on Pont's map of 1560 and also on Edward's map of 1616-1696 where an 'Old'(castle) is shown. The OS discovered in 1958 that the present farmhouse of Balmachie is entirely modern, no structural evidence or knowledge of an early building was found about the farm. The 2nd edition OS map shows a dovecot and rectangular building on the south side of the farmstead that has since been destroyed. Possible cropmark evidence for the castle site is shown on vertical aerial photographs taken in 1958.
