Remains of a flat-topped mound, possibly a castle. The Ordnance Name Book records the mound, but no features to distinguish it, but Jervise and Warden claim that there were 'still traces of the foundations of the Castle of Downie'. Revisited by the OS in 1958, it was recorded as an isolated, almost rectangular, flat-topped mound, surrounded by low-lying and often marshy ground. Its summit was circa 15 m x 12 m, it was 3.5 m high and had a small quarry dug into its east side. A fragment of probable dry-stone wall was recorded protruding from the mound.at the southeast angle, near the summit. Possibly a small keep or motte.
