Site of a battle allegedly fought in this locality between Angus, Earl of Moray and King David I, in AD 1130. David I defeated Angus, Earl of Moray in the battle (Annals of Ulster 12th century, Aildred 12th century), but the exact site is not known. According to antiquarian accounts and the ONB, the published site 'is most likely on, or near, the spot where the battle commenced. It extended as far east as Ballownie where the Earl of Moray is said to have been killed. Relics of the battle are said to have been found'. No further information.
