Remains of an unenclosed settlement., three ring-ditch houses were discovered by J Kenworthy in 1980 and survey by the RCAHMS in 1989 added another, within the fort. There are at least two ring-ditch houses lying on the east side of the White Caterthun, immediately outside the outer rampart of the fort. A third house is situated about 160m to the east-northeast, a short distance to the north of the foot path leading to the fort. The southerly of the two houses, adjacent to the White Caterthun fort, measures 12.4m from northeast to southwest by 12m over a shallow ditch about 2.5m in breadth. The entrance is probably marked by a gap in the low external bank that is visible around the downslope side of the ring-ditch. The northerly of the two houses measures 11.4m from north-northeast to south-southwest by 10.7m transversely over a shallow ditch 2.7m in breadth. The entrance is again on the downslope side, marked by a gap in a low external bank. On the uphill side the inner lip of the ditch peters out, but the outer lip continues as a scarp about 0.3m high.
