Site of a castle. Described as a tower about 9.14 m square (30 ft square) and of unknown height. It was probably built by one of the Lindsays of Edzell in 1601, because a stone with that date was removed when the building was demolished. The tower was occupied as a farmhouse until about 1772 and thereafter was quarried for building material for the neighbouring buildings. The dated heraldic stone, bearing the Lindsay and Wishart arms and the date 1601, was found in the demolition of a nearby cottage in the mid 18th century. By 1860, when visited by the OS, the west and parts of the north and south still stood circa 1 m high, and were 0.76 m thick, the remaining portions being just traceable and is accordingly marked on the 1st edition OS map as 'Ruins'. The castle had been completely removed by 1881 and is marked as 'Site of' on the (circa 1888) 2nd edition and subsequent OS maps. The heraldic stone is now preserved at Edzell Castle.
