Cropmarks of an Iron Age settlement. Four ring-ditches were recorded during aerial reconnaissance by CUCAP during the 1950s. Further detail was revealed by continued aerial reconnaissance, with five ring-ditches being recorded prior to excavation. Six penannular ring-ditch houses dating to the first millenium BC were excavated in 1979-80, the sixth house being masked by silt. The houses were of the broad ring-ditch type with internal beam support and were 7-13m in diameter, in five of the cases made of a series of shallow scoops. Some of the houses had remains of paving within the ditch or at the entrance. Other features include six-post structures and crescent-shaped hollows which might be the truncated remains of further house sites. There was little horizontal stratigraphy.
