Site of a cairn. Hare Cairn or the 'Law of Keithock' was a large, conical cairn of stones 14m in diameter by 6m in height surmounted by the 2m standing stone that now marks the site. The cairn was removed in the early to mid 19th century and two cists containing human remains were found about 24m south-west of the present position of the stone. The standing stone, mounted on a boulder, still marks the site of the cairn although there is now no trace of the cairn. The cairn is traditionally ascribed to commemorate the battle between the Earls of Crawford and Huntly in 1452 and is marked as such on the OS maps from the 1st edition map onwards.
