Remains of an airfield. Stracathro airfield served as a Relief Landing Ground and then storage facility from 1941-1946, during which time it was photographed in 1940 by the Luftwaffe. Vertical aerial photographs taken by the RAF in 1947 show that all the aircraft hangars had been removed by this date. The technical buildings and dispersed camps are all visible, as is the single pillbox situated to the south-west of the minor road which passes to the west of the airfield. The site of the main technical area is now occupied by Muir of Pert piggery which has utilised some of the original buildings. The runways have reverted to their original agricultural use and a new field boundary has been built across the central area. Two hexagonal pillboxes (probably Type FW3/22) are is shown on the 1973 OS 1:2500 map (NO66SW0143, NO66SW0144), but have since been removed: they are two of five known examples protecting the airfield. Seven Stanton air-raid shelters have been identified by the Pillbox Study Group on 1973 OS 1:2500 maps in the southern end of the airfield : all have been removed - see NO66SW0137, NO66SW0138, NO66SW0139 (two), NO66SW0140, NO66SW0141, NO66SW0142.
