Site of Maltings and former Flax Mill. The mill, called 'Union Mill', was built circa 1860. It was a 4-storey and attic, 21-bay rubble building with projecting end bays and a central hoist. The end bays had panels with decorative wings at top-floor level. The windows were small-paned with cast-iron frames. At the rear was a 6-bay central wing, converted to a double kiln with square-louvred vents, and a long 3-storey rubble block of conventional maltings, with a rectangular kiln with louvred ventilator. Two reservoirs are marked to the east of the site on both the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps. The maltings were closed in 1973. All buildings subsequently demolished and site completely redeveloped with housing.
