Site of the wreck of a large Naval target, lost while being towed by the Naval Tug SEAMAN M44 from Montrose to an unknown destination. The target was lost on the 2nd March 1945 20 yards east of Montrose Ness lighthouse, when the tow rope parted while crossing the bar. No person on board. At the time of loss, it was reported as having drifted ashore where it lay awash at high water. The target, which was built at Montrose, was about 130 feet in length and constructed of solid timber weighing approximately 300 ton. (Source of information: Montrose Ness Lighthouse)
