The stone was re-erected in the 1930s with its base set into concrete. The base is now exposed due to stock erosion. Resistivity survey of the Scheduled area around the Craw Stane and the series of surrounding enclosures was carried out in November 2006 as part of the Rhynie Environs Project, followed by excavations around it in 2011 and 2012 - see NJ42NE0047.
