Details Site of the Church of Essie, which was located in a small, rectangular graveyard. The church was on record in the early 16th century. After the parish merged with Rhynie it continued in use until circa 1740. It was pulled down in 1759 and its foundations 'grubbed up' in 1890 when the graveyard was 'put in order'. The Lesmoir family have a burial place there. In the old graveyard is a 1601 grave stone and a whin-mill stone. There are now no remains of the church. The burial ground is defined by a rubble and mortar wall, with an entrance in the north. Of the gravestones, only one appears to predate the 19th century. The graveyard contains the Commonwealth war grave of Private W Henderson, Gordon Highlanders.
