Castle, a small fortified house, the seat of the Forbes Barony of Alford, of mid 16th century date. Of unusual plan, the main block is of three storeys with attic, linked by a circular stair to a linking tall, slim southeast tower of 5-storeys. It is dated 1556 on the voussoirs of the doorway. Prison cell in thickness of staircase wall. Built of pinned boulder rubble, the dressings part granite and part sandstone. The tradition that a similar castle stood close by is no longer known. It was completely restored between 1967 and 1968.
