The farmstead of Pittoothies is depicted on the OS map of 1867 as a U-shaped steading with open court to the east southeast. The northern range has a projection the east. To the west lies another small U-shaped building on the same alignment, probably houses. To the north is another building orientated north northwest, south southeast. A millpond lies to the east with a lade leading to it from further east. By the 1888 map edition the farmstead is still U-shaped although the projection to the east has now gone. A small building lies within the court. The buildings to the west and the one to the north have now gone. Another building now lies to the north. The millpond is still evident. This layout is still retained today, although the pond area appears to be filled in.
