Details Castle, probably built on site of earlier castle. The castle may have been protected by a wet moat of which no trace remains. Originally Z-plan the castle is now incorporated in a mansion built 1836-40. No remains are visible of the castle externally. The northwest tower vaulted basement survives intact and a portion of its outer wall with a splayed granite plinth. The base of a circular tower can be seen in a cupboard on the ground floor. An armorial stone bearing the date 1604 is in the present building. A fire in 1926 revealed what remains of the old castle. The 19th century mansion contains a spectacular staircase with carved wood balustrade panels and a drawing room with rich plasterwork on ceiling and a notable circular room with a tent ceiling. The policies and designed landscape surround the castle.
