A trial trenching evaluation was carried out by Amey in 2013 ahead of a proposed electricity substation. A total of 152 trenches were excavated across the site, but only one feature of potential archaeological significance was uncovered. This was an oval pit containing mottled soil and charcoal which when radiocarbon dated produced an age circa 2410 BC to 2202 BC, which falls into the Chalcolithic period. Its' function is uncertain, and it contained no artefacts. Degraded remains of rig and furrow cultivation were recorded elsewhere in a number of trenches.
