House, still in use, built in 1830-40. It is a two-storey and attic, wide four-bay house, with a two-storey rear wing. The house is constructed from squared dark whinstone, with painted ashlar margins and dressings, and a harled return gable and rear elevation. The principal elevation has a wide corniced pilastered doorpiece, with a centre entrance and margined multi-pane side lights, and a circa 1900 panelled door. A later bipartite has been added in each outer bay, with painted later concrete sills. There is regular first floor fenestration, and late 19th century canted wallhead dormer in each of the outer bays. The windows use plate glass timber sash and case glazing. The slate roof has corniced end stacks (shared at the east with No 2 George Street, and a stone ridge. A high coped rubble garden wall separates the garden from Castle Street and 62 Castle Street.
