Details Remains of a motte or Medieval moated enclosure. Very little recognisable now remains, but an old castle is said to have stood here at one time. The foundations of an old building, together with a portion of the earthwork, were removed some years before 1867. Although there is a tradition of it having been a Roman camp, and it is depicted as such on the 1st edition OS map, there is nothing obviously Roman at the site. The north and west 'ramparts' are two hollows which probably represent the spread remains of artificial ditches circa 20 m wide. The southeast 'rampart' appears to be merely a natural scarp, and there is no trace of a south 'rampart'.
