A Class I Pictish symbol stone was found in the River Don (at circa NJ 779 201) in 1853, and erected on Caskieben motte (NJ72SE0040). The stone, a whinstone monolith measuring 1.5 m x 0.61 m, is incised with, from top to bottom, a double disc and Z-rod, a fish (probably a salmon) looking right, and a mirror and comb. The symbols are faint but discernible.
