Austere mansion built as a Roman Catholic Seminary (the only one in Scotland), following the reappearance of catholics from the hill site at Scalan (Moray, NJ21NW0004). It was in use as a Roman Catholic college from 1799 to 1829, when Blairs College, Maryculter opened. The mansion is of granite ashlar, 3-storey and attic, wit ha seven window front with entrance to centre bay, piended slated roof with piended dormers and a pair of symmetrical axial stacks. The interior was remodelled since college function ceased. The 2-storey galleried kitchen in the west section is now the kitchen at ground level. There is an ex situ chimney piece in entrance hall and original chapel bell attached to the west gable. Named Auchorthies on the OS 1st edition map. See NJ72SW0166 for designed landscape.
