Details Remains of a designed landscape. A survey of the area surrounding Pitmedden was undertaken by Peter McGowan Associates and Addyman Archaeology in March 2007 on behalf of the NTS. This recorded a number of earlier features including stretches of 17th century walls. In August 1996 Robin Turner excavated seven small 0.5sq.m exploratory trenches within the area of raised ground to the north and northwest of the Pitmedden limekiln (NJ82NE0053). These were dug in an attempt to locate the track that led to the loading area at the top of the kiln bowl. Possible evidence was found for a 'crudely surfaced track [that] might have led to the north-west' and it was concluded that though there must have been access 'it seems to have been quite informal'. See NJ82NE0034 for house and garden.
