Remains of a designed landscape. The landscaped parkland, loch, avenues and woodland date back to the medieval period. Size approximately 100 ha. The South Lodge is dated 1851 (NJ82NW0142), and the South Gates (NJ82NW0141) are presumed to be of the same date. The East Lodge (NJ82NW0241) is of a later date, circa 1950s. The New Statistical Account of 1793 records a significant area planted on the estate of Meldrum. Comparison of an estate map of 1780 with the OS 1st edition also shows major redesign in that period, including a new approach to the house, new ornamental lake, and south lodge built in 1851. The formal garden was removed from beside the house and a new walled garden built near the Mains steading. Walkover survey (following desk-based assessment) was carried out by Murray Archaeological Services in October 2020 over areas proposed for houses around the periphery of the estate grounds. Some of the areas (Plot Nos. 31-40) were within woods planted in the late 18th century and shown on a 1780 estate plan. A significant area of rig and furrow was recorded in the area of Plot Nos. 31-35, south of the golf course, centred circa NJ 8167 2889 (see NJ82NW0238). Another smaller area of rig and furrow was recorded in the area of Plot Nos. 36-40 centred circa NJ 81251 28491 (see NJ82NW0239). Linear earth and stone features centred circa NJ 8163 2930 are likely the product of dumping, possibly related to construction of the golf course. See NJ82NW0054 for Meldrum House.
