Details Remains of radio station. A Tropospheric Scatter Relay Station, an early warning system from the Cold War, stood near the summit of Mormond Hill. Built in the 1960s it was one of the stations (No 44) in the North Atlantic Radio System. It contained large satellite and radar dishes and an underground complex. Its main function was to provide information on any missile attacks and relay them to USA. It also connected to the RAF Buchan radar site near Peterhead. A number of features are still visible although now redundant but most of the buildings have now gone. There are now a number of commercial radio masts and communication towers on the site.
