Details Remains of cremation pit. A newly cut embankment revealed the partial remains of a pit circa 1 m below present ground surface. This pit contained cremated bone of possibly two individuals and burnt flints. An urn was reported to have been seen in the embankment on initial discovery but none was visible when the archaeologists arrived on site the following day. Five possible clay pinheads were found later while sieving material which had been bagged and removed to Aberdeen University Geography department (NJ95SE0037). Charcoal from the pit gave radiocarbon dates of 1920-1740 BC and 2040-1880 BC. Two other cremation pits have been recorded in the same area, one in 1970 (NJ95SE0021), the other in 1986 (NJ95SE0032).
