Details Site of shipwreck. The St. Catherine, locally thought to be one of the ships of the Spanish Armada AD 1588, is said to have been wrecked in this area. This was said to be confirmed when the minister raised one of the guns. It is 2.38m long, of iron, and was at the manse of Slains where it was mounted on a carriage. There were said to be more guns in the same pool. Now believed to be a ship used for carrying guns to the Earl of Huntly during the Catholic uprising. One of the guns and the anchor is said to be at Old Slains Castle.
