A field evaluation, coring and desk-based assessment was carried out on Rattray Island, Loch of Strathbeg, by CFA in 2002, in advance of proposed defence works to reduce the erosion of the island. The island is man-made, and coring work confirmed that there are no archaeological deposits below the present surface of the island. It was concluded that there would be no archaeological implications with defending the site from erosion. A concrete mooring block is situated circa 4 m from the southern edge of the island. This was used to moor sea planes during World War II.
