Details Site of alleged Abbey. In the late 18th Century the scant remains of a building were uncovered. These comprised of 'some pieces of very thick wall, vast heaps of slates...the foundations of one large house and a very indifferent spring...called the Abbot's Well. A stone coffin full of bones, the pavement of a court and a monumental stone with figures and letters on it, were lately seen but are now covered with earth'. There is now no trace of an 'Abbey' and the Abbey Well (NK 1245 4690) was filled in many years ago.
