Details Manse, still in use, built in circa 1789. There were additions and alterations in 1866-1873, commissioned by Queen Victoria and most likely to have been done by William Smith. The manse is associated with Crathie Church (NO29SE0018). It is a two-storey, three-bay double pile manse with an L-plan earlier section to the north (rear). The manse is constructed from pink and grey coursed granite, with some harl to the west. There are predominantly timber sash and case windows, with those to earlier part being 12-pane and others predominantly 4-pane. Some tripartite windows have timber mullions. The grey slate roof has raised coped skews and skewputts, gable coped stacks and one ridge stack and cast iron rain water goods with some decorative hoppers. There is a low lean-to former dairy in the re-entrant angle to the north that has tall slit windows with wire mesh. The south elevation of the manse has a near-central, very advanced corniced porch with corner ball finials and a segmental arched entrance with a six-panel timber door. To the west is an advanced gable with a canted bay to both storeys and a stone cross finial. There are pedimented dormerheads above. Inside, the original floorplan is largely extant and retains some original features, including six-panel timber doors, a classical marble chimney-piece a shallow tread stair with timber balusters and banister and simple cornicing to public rooms. One bedroom upstairs contains some frosted glass on the window, which is alleged to have enabled Queen Victoria to visit the grave of John Brown in the neighbouring graveyard (NO29SE0003) and not be overlooked by anyone within the Manse. The former dairy at the rear contains a flagstone floor and slate worktop. There is a tall, rubble granite boundary wall with rubble coping.
