Details Depopulated settlement comprising the remains of at least 15 longhouses and some enclosures south of the remains of the Spital. Field survey for Spital of Glenmuick Archaeology trail has recorded a number of individual features. At circa NO30778495 a corn drying kiln barn, comprising a turf-covered rubble-walled structure built into the slope. It is oval with stone-lined eggcup shaped bowl at the top and walled enclosure at the lower half, with the remains of the flue between the two. Circa NO30798493 - remains of a round-cornered barn built into the slope, measuring 10m by 5m, comprising low, turf-covered walls. NO30818495 - sheepfold depicted on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps,comprising a large drystone wall enclosure, with the remains of two small rectangular enclosures attached on the north side. Circa NO30888487 - longhouses and an enclosure, comprising remains of two buildings set at right angles, surviving as low turf-covered walls, with a sub-rectangular enclosure attached to the south side of the upper house. East of the sheepfold are the remains of several more longhouses. Survey as part of the Scotland's Rural Past project identified at least 17 buildings, belonging to two different phases, an early 19th century township, and an earlier township or shieling site. Structures also include a whisky still.
