Details The remains of a small settlement and three attached enclosures with a fourth enclosure over a fence in a wood. There are at least five houses all reduced to lower courses and infilled with collapsed walling. They sit mainly on the west side near the middle of the enclosures. The most easterly building (6.6 m x 5.2 m, wall thickness 0.8 m) sits at the junction of two enclosures and slightly apart from the other houses. A tree grows on top of the east side There are also two square-shaped structures, one of which was originally thought to be a kiln but this is now discounted. This structure (5 m x 4.8 m, 0.9 m thick) sits on a slight mound just below the most southerly house(12.5 m x 5.8 m x 1.2 m) which sits on top. It is infilled with collapsed walling. Function is not clear but it may have been a store house of some type. Below this structure on the east side of the mound are what looks like two small terraces, stone walls set into the slope, though they may indicate the remains of an old trackway. The second square-shaped structure, 5.4 m x 5.3 m, wall thickness 1.5 m, appears to be three-sided with an open side on the west, with again an unclear function, though the thickness of the wall suggests it is not a shed. Immediately abutting the north-east corner, and built into part of the most northerly enclosure west wall, is what looks like the remains of a small kiln, though this may simply coincidental wall collapse. The three other houses sit on the south-west corner of the largest enclosure, two adjoining each other, end to end(2.80 m x 2.90 m and 5.30 m x 7.40 m, walls 1-1.60 m thick, and abutting the back of the third. This house is of a more massive construction with walls 2.50m thick on the west side, external measurements 8.20 m x 4.50 m. The largest complete enclosure is sub-oval 19mx11m with the buildings set into its western side. The smallest is circa 11 m x 11 m and separated from the large enclosure by one of the houses. Attached to its southern side is a third enclosure, the eastern side of which is missing. The western side extends for circa 29 m before disappearing. In the wood to the east of this lies a fourth enclosure with a structure attached to its eastern end. It was not possible to measure this structure. The whole complex may be associated with Abergairn Castle (NO39NE0001) which is of early 17th century date and thought to be a possible hunting lodge. This could therefore suggest that the large square structure may be some sort of cold-store. The scant remains of a wall runs to the west, along the edge of the wood to the north of the castle. This thickens into a rectangular shape circa 4 m wide and terminates in what looks like an area of low stone clearance.
