Details The remains of the ' Old Castle ' of Drumtochty are marked on the 1st edition OS map, 1865 as a rectangular enclosure, but nothing is known of this site. The area is now afforested and covered by mature trees. Forestry Commission field visit noted a number of features, including an area of stone that appears to contain lime mortar, west of which a windblown tree revealed a small patch of compacted material which may possibly be the remains of a floor level. The enclosures appears to have been truncated by a later hollow-way - the present track. An earlier hollow-way leads to the southeast corner of the enclosure and seems to continue to the west of the enclosure.
