Former town house, now in use as a library, probably built in circa 1840. It is a two-storey, classic, rubble and slate building with a 5-bay main front with a pedimented centre bay that was formerly capped by an 18th century belfry, since removed. At the wall head of the east wall is an inset stone dated 1569, possibly from the earlier tolbooth. The fabric may incorporate work of 1720, a date that was formerly inscribed above the doorway. There is a former jail on the west of which two jail vaults remain.
