In the 13th century the parish church of Dunothr, which succeeded St Ninian's church but retained the dedication, was consecrated on the rock. In 1297 the church was burnt by Wallace and the parochial place of worship moved to its present site (see NO88NE0014) a mainly 16th century church but incorporates two windows from the 13th century church in the lower part of the south wall.
