Details Market cross standing on site of former cross. The base of the old cross was left in position, and the new cross built over it. Three carved stones from the old cross are in Falconer museum (NJ05NW0167). The present cross was designed by Thomas Mackenzie, 1844, with the foundation stone laid on 19th February 1844, and is a pinnacled cross modelled on the Scott Monument, Edinburgh. It has a stepped plinth, four octagonal piers supporting the pinnacles and arched to a central pier. There are corbelled niches above with capping pinnacles, and a diminutive tiered and gabletted centre with crowning cross.
