Details Bridge of Avon (formerly known as Bridge of Campdalemore), originally built in 1754 by the 33rd regiment to carry the military road between Coupar Angus and Fort George over the River Avon. It is a two arched rubble bridge, higher at the West bank than the East, with unequal stone arch ring. The larger Western arch passes over the main stream. There are triangular cut waters. The original parapet was removed to accommodate a temporary iron girder bridge, and there are some breeze block repairs. The smaller arch was destroyed in 1829 by a flood, and there was further flood damage in circa 1976. A plaque at Well of Lecht near Tomintoul commemorates the building of a road in 1754 'from here to Spey by the 33rd Reg' which passes over Bridge of Avon.
