Details The farmstead and house of Lower Mains is depicted on the OS map of 1846. The steading is rectangular in plan with a central open court. A horsemill lies against the northeast exterior. The house lies to the west. To the south is a large walled orchard. By 1888 the horsemill has gone but the rest retains the same plan. The orchard now appears to be a garden. Today only part of the original steading appears to survive with a later steading now built further to the north. Only part of the walled garden now survives.
