Distillery. Established in 1826, the present distillery was built in 1879 by James Fleming. It was rebuilt again in 1898 following a fire. It has been extensively modernised. With the exception of the ornate offices (built in 1897) adjacent to the main gates, the principal buildings have been covered with a grey roughcast render. The re-built distillery of 1880 covered 2 acres of ground, consisting of a triangular block of stone buildings of neat appearance and conveniently arranged for the various process of distillation. The malt barn is 121 feet long and 40 feet deep, with two concrete steeps, two grain lofts, a kiln, mash and still and iron mash-tun. The tun room stood over the mash house and contained five washbacks. Two bonded warehouses, both of stone construction, roofed over with corrugated iron. There was no steam power at the distillery, the continuous flow of water being sufficient to drive all the machinery, which included grinding, mashing, elevating, steering and pumping. Still in production and open to the public. Building recording was carried out in 2020 ahead of proposed development.
