Coleburn Distillery, built in 1895-7 by Charles C. Doig, initially as the Coleburn-Glenlivet distillery. The complex is dominated by a 2-storey, four by 12-bay block of maltings with two kilns. All buildings are constructed of rubble with tooled ashlar dressings, some rubble has been white-washed, and all buildings have slate roofs. The distillery includes the former barley drying kiln, kiln, tun room and mash house, filling store and malt-barn. The tall kiln has a louvred 'pagoda' cupola, and the barley drying kiln is slightly lower, both with ogee slated roofs. A long 2-storey, 13-bay malt-barn projects at angles, with long regular elevations roughly northwest and southeast, and a lower first floor. The duty free warehouses have gabled elevations roughly northeast and southwest, and there are 3-bay gable ends to warehouse No. 1 and 4-bay to No. 2. The Distillery office and Customs and Excise office is next to the main entrance, and is a gabled, single storey, T-plan building with entrances to the respective offices in the re-entrant angles. There is a long white-washed store, possibly a former piggery, which has been gutted internally. There is a single storey, 3-bay cottage with a centre door to the south. It has 4-pane glazing and end stacks. The Manager's House to the east of the cottage is a late 19th century, single storey and attic, 3-bay southwestern facing house. It has a centre door, two canted dormers, 4-pane glazing, projecting gabled eaves and end stacks. The distillery was closed in 1985. A photographic survey was carried out in 1996 by RCAHMS (now HES). In 2004 the distillery was acquired by new owners, who subsequently leased Coleburn’s dunnage warehouses to Aceo, owner of independent bottler Murray McDavid, to mature its own stocks and use as the company’s headquarters. The bottler, which also owns the Coleburn brand name under Coleburn Distillery Ltd, has released a blend under the distillery name and has since spoken of its intentions to release further Coleburn blends and possibly even restart whisky production at the distillery. A photographic survey was carried out in 2023 prior to proposed alterations to existing pagoda. Photographic recording of the Manager's House was carried out in 2023 ahead of proposed alterations.
