Classical single storey academy building by A and W Reid, 1885-6. Formerly the Elgin Academy, now Moray College of Further Education. The original building is of five wide bays, the outer bays advanced with centres further advanced, each bay with three tall narrow windows. Coursed rubble walls to base course and ashlar from cill course upwards, with channelled pilaster strips at the angles. It has a tetrastyle portico shallow piended slate roof. There are 3-bay flanks each with an advanced centre bay with 3-light windows. there is an arch with a bellcote at the east gable. The 19th century building is linked at the rear to modern extensions by covered walk-way. War memorials within the old school included one to Martin Bruce, a private in the City of London Imperial Volunteers who died in 1900 during the South African Campaign. The memorials were later displayed in the new Academy (built 1967), NJ26SW0566.
