Harbour, built 1837-9 by engineer James Bremner, and extended south in 1852 and west in 1860. An unusual harbour on an L-plan with long narrow arms. 3-storey, 2 by 11 bay block of gear stores and warehouses along south side, also small steel-framed, post crane with wooden jib. At NJ 23970 71151 on the north end of the east pier the 1st and 2nd edition maps show a harbour signal.
