Centre of small village, depicted on the 1846 1st edition OS map named as 'Ballhillock', consisting of a school, post-office and market stance. By the time of the 2nd edition map the school had moved across the road to the east (NJ32NE0045), and a new building had been added to the north of the market stance and it is named as 'Cabrach'. The post-office building, later school building and building to the north of the market stance appear to survive.
