An early Market Cross of an unusual design, sitting on a cylindrical shaped shaft that is approximately 12 inches high and has a square capital. It was constructed at an unknown date before 1769. It stood in old town of Fochabers (NJ35NW0156) which was demolished, this Market Cross and one cottage are all that remain of the old town. A short length of chain is fastened to the north face about 1.92m from the ground are the remains of jougs, which survived on the cross until at least 1937. The cross is situated on the grounds of Gordon Castle (NJ35NW0010), close to the north wall of the walled garden (NJ35NW0143).
