Details Stone clearance heaps. The area is marked as cairns on the OS maps of 1846 and 1888 and the OS Name book 1868 recorded a number of small cairns sad to be the graves of those who fell in a battle between the early Scots and Danes. OS site visit 1964 recorded about a dozen stony mounds in this area, identified as stone clearance heaps not cairns, but there was no trace of an associated field system. OS 1967 site visit noted that the heaps had almost all have disappeared due to planting and heavy grazing by cattle. It is unknown what does survive.
