Details Mansion house, now in commercial use. It is dated 1888, with a large 20th century addition. During World War I it was used as a Red Cross auxiliary hospital. It is shown on the 2nd edition OS map (1903) as a square building, with projecting bays on the South and East elevations, set within a rectangular enclosure. During World War I it was used as a Red Cross auxiliary hospital. The building is oriented roughly North/South, and is two-storeys at the West, rising to three-storeys on the East. The original section of the house is harled with ashlar margins. It is made up of a single wing oriented North/South, and two wings projecting from the West elevation under a double-pitch roof. There are crow-stepped gables and finialled dormers at the wallhead. The later extension to the North is also harled with ashlar margins, and is two-storey to the West and three-storey to the East, but has a corbelled crenellated wallhead and platform roof. There is a large four-stage round tower to the North-East corner, and a smaller square tower to the North-West corner. The West elevation is partially covered to the first floor by a wall of the adjacent lane. To the South of the elevation are the two gable ends of the original block. There is a small segmentally-arched window in the North gable end, with an off-centre square-headed ground-floor window below. There is a ground and first floor square-headed window situated centrally between the two gable ends, and the South gable end is blank. There are corniced stacks at the apex of both crow-stepped gables. The West elevation of the new block is recessed, and there is a single bay of the original block on the North return elevation. There is a gabled dormer breaking the wallhead, with the date 1888 within the gable above the window and a fleur-de-lis finial. There is a square-headed bipartite window to the ground floor. The West elevation of the later block has square-headed ground and first floor windows on the Southern bay, and a small square tower at the North, with stepped corbelling to the West and North elevation. The North elevation is now overgrown with trees, but has the circular tower at projecting the Eastern end. The East elevation has the circular tower to the North, with narrow windows to the four stages and a corbelled crenellated wallhead. The rest of the East elevation is three-storey. The later addition section has three bays, with arches on the ground-floor, three windows to the first-floor and two windows to the second-floor, and a corbelled crenellated wallhead. The North wing seen projecting to the West also slightly projects on the East elevation, with a full height gabled and ball-finialled bow with triple windows to each floor. There are two finialled wallhead dormers breaking the wallhead, a central bipartite window to the first floor and two windows to the ground floor. The South elevation is two-storey and attic and has three bays, with the Eastern bay being made up of the gable end of the North/South oriented wing. It has square-headed ground and first floor windows, and a slit window within the crow-stepped gable, which is surmounted by a ball finial to the apex. There is a central ashlar entrance porch, with a crow-stepped and ball-finialled gable. The entrance is approached by stone balustraded stairs. The door is set within a Tudor-arch, and is surmounted by a fanlight. There is a square-headed ground-floor window to the West of the porch, and two gabled dormers with fleur-de-lis finials breaking the wallhead at the first floor.
