Details Site of castle. The OS Name Book recorded the site of the castle on the west side of the present farm steading, noting that a small vestige of the ruin formed part of the north end garden wall. OS site visit in 1961 found no certain trace of the castle found. A stretch of circa 8 m of the west and north wall of the existing garden is of mortared rubble masonry circa 2 m high but featureless and it is not possible to say if it was part of the castle or courtyard. A low bank or dark trace of a ditch is visible on a vertical aerial photograph taken in 1976 surrounding the site of the castle. The earliest cartographic reference to the castle appears to be a tower house named Skyith on Pont's map of 1580-90, although this predates a date stone of 1687 incorporated into the present farmhouse (NJ56SW0075). The castle was ruinous by the 1790s (Statistical Account of 1791-9).
