Seat of the Brodies from the 11th century. A Z-plan castle was built 1567 and may incorporate parts of an earlier building. There is a 17th century coved plaster ceiling in Laird's room, a lintel dated 1602. It was plundered and burnt in 1645. The 18th century was the pinnacle of development with formal gardens. Bankruptcy in 1774 was staved off by Brodie's father-in-law. Burns stayed a night 1787. There is a large Elizabethan extension from 1824. Alterations and additions made in 1846. It was renovated and re-harled in 1980.
