Details Gate lodge, dated 1841 with later additions. It is the South gate lodge for Grange Hall (NJ06SE0084). On the 1st edition OS map, it is shown as a roughly rectangular building oriented North/South, with some projecting bays. On the 2nd edition OS map, it has been extended to its present roughly squared shape, and there is an additional small rectangular building to the East, which is no longer present. The 2nd edition OS map also shows a well to the East of the lodge, which is still present. There is also a modern lean-to extension. It is a single-storey, gabled gate lodge, with an asymmetrical three-bay West entrance front facing the driveway, and an irregular two-bay South frontage to the road. It is constructed from tooled rubble, with tooled ashlar dressings, and there is some harling at the rear. There is a slightly advanced gabled porch in the outer bay at the North-West, and a wide advanced bay at the South-West, fronted by a canted projecting window with panelled aprons and a stone slab piended roof. There is a similar projecting canted gabled window in the South front and a wide advanced gabled bay at the South-East, fronted by a rectangular projecting window with a flat roof. There is mullioned and transomed fenestration used, with plate glass glazing that probably replaces the original lattice-panes. There is a deep base course, decorative scrolled bargeboards with turned apex finials and pendants and coped ridge and wallhead stacks on slate roofs. There is simplified detail to the rear, and the modern lean-to extension. The lodge has a low wall, surmounted by railings, to its front, with hexagonal gatepiers flanking the entrance. The gatepiers are sitting on slightly wider bases, and have conical caps.
